How to move apps between iPhone Home Screen pages

Updated

Moving apps between pages is one of those things that's simple in theory and fiddly in practice. These steps work on current iOS versions.

Move one app to another page

  1. Touch and hold an empty part of the Home Screen until the apps start to jiggle. You can also touch and hold any app and choose Edit Home Screen.
  2. Drag an app to a new spot on the same page.
  3. To move it to another page, drag it to the left or right edge of the screen and wait for the next page to slide in, then drop it.
  4. Tap Done in the top-right corner when you're finished.

Move several apps at once

  1. Enter jiggle mode by touching and holding an empty part of the Home Screen.
  2. Start dragging the first app, and keep your finger on it.
  3. With another finger, tap each app you want to bring along. They join the stack and a number shows how many you're holding.
  4. Drag the stack to the edge of the screen to change pages, then lift your finger to drop them.

Bring an app back from the App Library

  1. Swipe left past your last Home Screen page to open the App Library.
  2. Touch and hold the app and choose Add to Home Screen, or drag it onto a page.

Reorder or hide whole pages

  1. In jiggle mode, tap the row of dots above the Dock. You'll see all your pages as thumbnails.
  2. Untick a page to hide it (the apps stay in the App Library). On recent iOS versions you can also drag the thumbnails to reorder pages.
  3. Tap Done.

Why do my apps jump to the next page?

When you drop an app onto a full page, every icon after the drop point shifts along one spot, and the last one on the page gets pushed onto the next page. If that was an app you wanted on page 1, you now have to go and fetch it.

The fix on the phone is to make room first: move an app off the page, then drop the new one in. Or plan the whole layout somewhere you can see every page at once.

Move apps between pages on your PC with WiggleGrid

With WiggleGrid every page and the Dock sit side by side on your Windows PC. Grab an app from page 3 and drop it on page 1 in exactly the spot you want. Nothing gets bumped to another page; if a page is full, the app tells you instead.

  1. Download WiggleGrid on your Windows 10 or 11 PC and create a free account.
  2. Connect your iPhone with a USB cable, unlock it and tap Trust if it asks. If Windows needs Apple's free Apple Devices app, WiggleGrid points you to it.
  3. Run the free compatibility check. It tells you whether your iPhone model and iOS version are supported before you pay anything.
  4. Drag apps between pages, or select several and move them together.
  5. Click Review changes to see a plain list of everything that will change, then Apply to iPhone. WiggleGrid saves a snapshot of your current layout first and reads the iPhone back afterwards to confirm it matches.

Applying changes is a one-time $19.99 purchase. WiggleGrid never erases your iPhone, doesn't use iCloud and never asks for your Apple ID password. Don't like the result? Restore the snapshot in one click.

Try it on your PC, free

Download WiggleGrid and run the free compatibility check. Pay $19.99 once, only if your iPhone passes.
